At The Inn Between, your safety, comfort, and enjoyment are central to everything we do. Role-playing games can sometimes explore intense or challenging themes, so we have established clear procedures to ensure every session is conducted in a welcoming and respectful environment.
To support this, we have implemented the following systems:
These measures are designed to protect both players and staff, and to ensure that everyone can focus on what matters most: immersive, collaborative storytelling in a safe and supportive space.
At The Inn Between, we use two key safety tools to ensure every player feels comfortable and respected during play. The X-Card system, created by John Stavropoulos, allows anyone at the table to pause or remove content that makes them uncomfortable without the need for explanation. Alongside this, our Session Trigger Warning documents provide an overview of potential sensitive themes before a campaign begins, giving players the opportunity to opt in with informed consent. Together, these tools ensure that games remain collaborative, respectful, and enjoyable for all participants.
The Inn Between is committed to being a safe, fair, and welcoming space for all players. To ensure this, our Safety Council exists to uphold that standard. The council is made up of players who have volunteered, and is open to any member of The Inn Between community. It exists to provide as impartial a system as possible for addressing concerns or breaches of the Code of Conduct, raised by either players or the Game Master. If the council cannot reach a unanimous decision, external moderators will be brought in to ensure a fair and impartial resolution. As part of this commitment, our Game Master Aidan Ward is required to complete training, with certification provided by iHasco in areas such as: Unconscious Bias Training Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Training, and Bullying & Harassment Training. The Safety Council ensures these certifications are refreshed every year.
